Practice Policies

Swimmers:

1. Come prepared each day for practices. Water or electrolyte drink REQUIRED. Coaches may turn swimmers away if they do not bring a drink.

  • SWIM PRACTICE: Swimmers should bring fins, paddleboard, goggles, swim cap, swimsuit, towel, and water or electrolyte drink to practice. 
  • DRYLAND PRACTICE: athletic clothing, athletic shoes & water or electrolyte drink 

2. Strive to achieve greatest possible potential through hard work and effort. Excessive talking, horseplay or getting out of the pool multiple times during practices are unacceptable.

3. Follow team rules & MWR/base rules.

4. Respect other teammates, coaches, MWR staff and facility.

5. Represent YJSST with pride. Demonstrate good sportsmanship.

6. Speak directly with your coach, especially with concerns or decisions that directly affect you.

7. Attendance is required. Notify coach if you need to arrive late or miss practice for illness, travel, or an after school activity. Five (5) unexcused absences or a swimmer not having communication for a period of five days may forfeit place on the team by either suspension or termination.

8. No outdoor shoes on deck. You may wear an indoor pair designated for the pool/locker rooms. 

9.  MWR equipment (such as paddle boards, fins, pull buoys) are available for use, however are not always available due to regular patron use. This is why we ask all swim team members to bring their own fins and paddleboards. If MWR equipment has to be borrowed by a swim team member, it must be properly taken care of and returned to the correct place after practice.

Practice Details

White Practice Team

This group is 85% instructional and 15% conditioning. 

Performance Requirements:

Obtain and maintain a B time in all four strokes.

Red and Green Practice Teams

These groups are 70% instructional and 30% conditioning. 

Performance Requirements:

Obtain and consistently maintain BB Times on all four strokes with a goal of A time.

Junior Practice Team

This group is 40% instructional and 60% conditioning. 

Performance Requirements:

Has obtained a USA Swimming BB Motivational time standard in all four strokes for their age group and is showing the desire to reach A-AA goals.

Senior Practice Team

This group is 30% instructional and 70% conditioning. 

Performance Requirements:

Can swim all strokes & IMs with proper form at BB-A times.

YJSST Swimmer Code of Conduct

1. I promise to show respect and common courtesies at all times to the team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents and for all facilities and other property used during practices, competitions and team activities. 

2. I promise to demonstrate good sportsmanship during all practices, competitions, and team activities. 

3. I will be an active participant in all team practices, competitions, fundraising events and other team activities. 

4. I will come to all team sponsored events in the appropriate attire. 

5. I will respect the coaches’ and officials’ instructions and will make every effort to be on time for workouts, competitions, and team events. 

6. I will refrain from horseplay, foul language, violence, behavior deemed dishonest, discourteous, disrespectful, threatening, or offensive to others. 

7. I will follow all rules and regulations.
